Infrastructure Development

Each Children’s Hospital should function as a free standing entity and this requires significant infrastructure development. In some cities, the roads leading to the main hospital building are narrow, because they are located downtown and in some instances, construction work abandoned for various reasons. Electricity is not always a given, and many of the facilities are lacking in basic equipment to ensure they deliver on basic secondary and tertiary healthcare requirements. Nonetheless, children and adolescents are receiving healthcare both as inpatients and outpatients and the care they receive must continue despite the infrastructure gaps.

We aim to enhance processes for patient care with improved coordination of care, diagnostic capacity, reduce turnaround time for diagnostics with minimal service disruption in the face of the absence of basic utilities.

To this end, our infrastructure support depends on the gaps in each facility. We support provision of basic equipment, supplies and furnishings for patients diagnosis and treatment.

We ensure availability of cross cutting infrastructure including Information Communication and Technology support for electronic medical records, Energy, Ventilation, Medical gases, as well as for Kitchen and Laundry services
